Child’s Play
In the town of Rimini, located on the northern Adriatic coast, the Montebello Castle is haunted by the legend of “Azzurrina”, a five year old albino girl who mysteriously disappeared while she was playing inside the castle with a ball made of rags. She was last seen on the summer solstice of 1375: since then, her ghost is said to appear on this day every five years.
Revenge of the Monk
In the southern province of Salerno, there is a cursed monastery known as the “Devil’s Monks Convent”; a place where no one dares to get close. Three hundred years ago, a monk searched for bloody revenge after his brothers killed the girl he fell in love with. After several mysterious deaths, the rebel monk was finally hanged by the King’s guards. Since then, his ghost is said to linger in the building’s dark corridors and decaying surroundings.
Chilled to the Bone
For a bone-chilling experience in Rome, one must visit the Capuchin Crypt. Curiously located inside a church that sits between embassies and five star hotels, it’s hiding in plain sight. It houses the remains of about 4,000 Capuchin friars from over three centuries! Here you’ll find entire skeletons dressed as holy figures, as well as thousands of skulls and bones arranged in an artistic way. At the entrance, you’re greeted by the haunting phrase “Quello che voi siete noi eravamo, quello che noi siamo voi sarete… “What you are now we used to be; what we are now you will be…”
