Top 3 Beaches in Northern Italy

In Italy, beautiful beaches await you from coast to coast. When most people imagine the Italian seaside, places like Capri and Sardinia come to mind first. But our specialty is helping you discover all of the hidden gems this magnificent country has to offer! That’s why we’ve chosen three beach destinations in Northern Italy that only the locals know about.

Baia del Silenzio – Sestri Levante, Liguria

The Bay of Silence is a quintessential Ligurian beach, with a short stretch of white sand and crystal clear waters that are protected by green hills and surrounded by aristocratic palaces. Its tranquil and secluded atmosphere will transport you to the days when artists, poets, and intellectuals sought refuge near the sea.

Cala Violina – Scarlino, Tuscany

Not only is this region famous for being home of the Renaissance and a global hub for red wine, but it also boasts amazing beaches! We chose Cala Violina because of its uncommon beauty, pristine sand and sea, and natural protection by the surrounding nature. This unique beach destination is accessible only by foot or bicycle, and the visit can be booked online for just one euro.

The name Violina comes from music: tiny grains of quartz in the sand make a sound every time you step on them, contributing to a natural soundtrack. There are only about 100 places in the world like this, so it’s truly a special place!

Santa SeveraLazio

Located on the northern coast of Lazio, fine white sand and clear blue water make this an unmissable spot. But it’s the castle on the beach that creates a stunning backdrop for swimming and sunbathing, and that gives Santa Severa its particular allure.

The Castle was built on the supposed site of the martyrdom of the young Christian woman Severa in 298 A.D., and its current structure is from the XIV century: inside there are two museums open to the public.

Only an hour from Rome by car or train, a beach trip is a perfect way to escape the city. We recommend visiting in the off-season (May-June or September-October) for a chance to enjoy the scenery and capture amazing photos.
